Russia FIFA 2018 World Cup: Costa Rica 0-1 Serbia
Serbia captain Aleksandar Kolarov scored the lone goal for his side at the Russia FIFA 2018 World Cup match played on Sunday which saw his team gather all the 3 points available from the match.
Kolarov’s left-footed free-kick flew past Costa Rican goalkeeper, Navas.
Named the Budweiser Man of the Match, he said:
“The free-kick came in a difficult moment in the match and I knew I could step up and change things, and that’s exactly what I did.”
Kolarov was named Serbia’s new captain in 2018 and wore the armband for the first time during friendlies against Morocco and Nigeria in March.
After the match, Coach Oscar Ramirez’s reminisced on some post-match thoughts after his side’s 1-0 defeat by Serbia.
He said:
“I think it was a tight match. We should’ve capitalised on our opportunities like they did. We had our tactical plan in place and with the subs, we tried to attack them on the wings. We tried to execute our plan but they managed to score on a set piece. What can you do?”
Two yellow cards were issued to Calvo and Ivanovic during the encounter.
