A couple from the Scottish Borders has won half of the record £66m National Lottery jackpot.

The 14-times rollover prize was split between two tickets that had all six winning numbers from Saturday’s draw.

A Lotto statement said: “A couple from the Scottish Borders are celebrating today after winning one half of last weekend’s incredible £66m Lotto jackpot.

“The husband-and-wife team are celebrating with a life-changing cheque for £33,035,323. The couple plan to enjoy their winnings and take early retirement.”

The winning numbers were 26, 27, 46, 47, 52 and 58.

Lotto operators Camelot said on Monday that one of the winners had yet to come forward.

A spokesman said: “Someone out there still doesn’t realise they have won.”

Winners have 180 days to claim their prize, which means Saturday night’s joint winner has until 7 July to come forward.

Despite being shared, the prize still dwarfs the previous record win of £22,590,829 – collected by Paul Maddison and Mark Gardiner from Hastings, East Sussex in 1995.

It will now be business as usual for Wednesday’s draw, with a considerably smaller prize of £2.4m up for grabs.

Although a £66m jackpot is certainly enough to bring out the crowds, it pales in comparison to the Powerball prize fund in the US – which has rolled over to a record $1.3bn (£895m) .
