Shehu Sani slams Tinubu, backs regional unity against boko haram
DDM News

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu, claiming that many Nigerians were deceived into believing he possessed magical solutions to Nigeria’s challenges before he assumed power.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Sani’s scathing remarks came in response to ongoing political commentary about the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, particularly in the North-East, where Boko Haram continues to wreak havoc.
Sani said President Tinubu enjoyed widespread public belief that he would bring instant transformation and address the country’s multifaceted crises.
According to him, those illusions have since given way to harsh realities under his administration.
He argued that beyond rhetoric and political slogans, the Nigerian people are now facing the true weight of failed promises.
Meanwhile, former Borno State governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has urged the federal government to shift its counterinsurgency focus toward regional integration if it hopes to permanently defeat Boko Haram.
In an interview with Channels Television on July 28, 2025, Sheriff emphasized that Nigeria cannot overcome the terrorist threat alone.
He called for stronger cooperation with neighboring countries such as Chad, Cameroon, and Niger Republic.
Sheriff explained that Boko Haram’s strength lies in its ability to exploit porous borders and retreat into nearby nations when under military pressure.
He warned that without multinational efforts, any progress made within Nigeria’s territory would be temporary.
“Boko Haram is not a Nigerian problem alone,” Sheriff stressed.
“It is a regional insurgency and must be confronted through a regional strategy.”
He further proposed coordinated security patrols, real-time intelligence sharing, and joint military operations involving countries around the Lake Chad Basin.
Sheriff also highlighted the need for economic interventions targeting vulnerable communities that are often exploited by extremist groups.
Security experts have long blamed Boko Haram’s resilience on its capacity to regroup in remote border zones.
Despite the existence of the Multinational Joint Task Force, progress has been hindered by inconsistent coordination and political interests among participating countries.
Sheriff believes now is the time for West African nations to set aside national pride and work together as a united front.
His call aligns with growing sentiment that Nigeria’s security crisis can no longer be treated as an isolated domestic issue.
As Shehu Sani critiques the leadership’s unfulfilled promises, voices like Sheriff’s continue to push for a broader regional alliance to end the over-a-decade-long insurgency.
