Slovenia Imposes Travel Ban on Israeli PM Netanyahu Over Gaza War Crimes

Slovenia has imposed a travel ban on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing war crimes allegations tied to the Gaza conflict.

The decision marks the latest move in the country’s tough stance against Israel’s leadership.

The government announced the ban on Thursday, stating that it reflects Slovenia’s commitment to international law, human rights, and a consistent foreign policy.

Neva Grasic, Secretary of State at the Foreign Ministry, said the decision sends a “clear message” that Slovenia expects Israel to comply with rulings from international courts and humanitarian law.

Netanyahu faces accusations at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

The ban follows a series of strong measures by Slovenia against Israel.

In July 2025, the government barred two far-right Israeli cabinet ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, accusing them of making genocidal statements and inciting violence against Palestinians.

In August 2025, Slovenia went further, introducing an arms embargo on Israel, banning exports, imports, and transit of weapons.

The country also prohibited the import of goods produced in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories while approving an additional aid package for Gaza.

Slovenia, an EU member state, recognized Palestine last year and has been vocal in demanding a ceasefire in Gaza and increased humanitarian aid deliveries to the enclave.

Officials said the travel ban on Netanyahu is consistent with Slovenia’s recent policies and underscores its alignment with international human rights standards.
