Suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists organization and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), launched a vicious attack on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack resulted in the death of unconfirmed number of Nigerian soldiers and many others reported missing.

According to security sources, the gruesome attack occurred in the wee hours of Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Armed to the teeth, the terrorists invaded the FOB Sabon Gari camp at approximately 4am, engaging troops in a serious gun battle that lasted for over two hours.

“25 Taskforce Brigade was attacked over the weekend, leading to numerous casualties. So far, we have recovered more than seven bodies,” a source according to SaharaReporters said.

The attackers also set ablaze several buildings and military vehicles during the raid.

Moreover, this incident underscores ISWAP’s increasing presence in the Lake Chad region following the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.

The group has bolstered its ranks with the defection of hundreds of Boko Haram fighters, which has enhanced its operational capabilities.
