A former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mr. Michael Koase Aondoakaa, has stated that someone born in Nigeria but with citizenship of another country has the right to contest elections in the country.

Mr. Aondoakaa made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, during the programme “Morning Show”.

While responding to the latest discovery respecting the Guinean diplomatic passport possessed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwahu Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Aondoakaa cited a certain court judgement and said that having dual citizenship does not disqualify someone from contesting election in Nigeria.

He, however, did not exonerate Tinubu from the allegation of perjury, saying that if Tinubu has lied under oath, then he is answerable to the Tribunal.

He also lambasted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for flaunting its own electoral rules, noting that if the electoral body has violated the law it is expected to play by its rules, then the courts will have to decide if the elections will stand.

According to him, “illegality cannot produce legality.”
