South East Patriots Urge Atiku, Peter Obi Alliance “To Rescue Nigeria”

The South East Patriots (SEP) have issued a strong call for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor, Mr. Peter Obi, to join forces in what the group describes as a “historic alliance” needed to rescue Nigeria from its deepening national crisis.
In a statement signed by the group’s Convener, Hon. Obunike C. Ohaegbu, the Patriots urged Nigerians across all regions to demand the unification of the two respected political figures.
Hon. Ohaegbu described such a partnership as not only patriotic, but vital to the nation’s future.
“Both Atiku and Obi are among Nigeria’s most investigated former public officials, yet neither has ever been charged by the EFCC or any corruption-related agency.
“They have both built successful business empires outside of government patronage, demonstrating discipline, vision, and integrity.
“This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs,” Ohaegbu noted.
The statement emphasized that neither the South East nor the North East—regions the two men respectively hail from—has produced a democratically elected President or Head of State since the end of the Nigerian Civil War in 1970, either through elections or military rule.
“This historical injustice must be addressed.
“A transition from Atiku to Obi would be a symbol of national healing, inclusion, and equity,” the group said.
Describing the current state of the nation as “dangerously fragile,” the group recommended a joint ticket or structured political alliance between the two leaders.
It said insisted that such alliance would inspire confidence, attract wide support, and offer a credible alternative to the ruling elite.
The group declared: “Let ego give way to equity. Let vision triumph over rivalry.
“Let strategic thinking prevail over sentiments. Nigeria deserves this moment. Nigeria deserves this unity.
“Nigerians must rise and insist that these two men, both proven patriots, come together for the sake of the nation.”
The South East Patriots also called on youth groups, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and traditional institutions to mobilise grassroots support for the proposed Atiku-Obi alliance.
The group framed it as “the most viable path to Nigeria’s recovery.”
