Governors of 17 states of Southern Nigeria has called for devolution of powers after the general meeting held in Lagos House, Ikeja, Lagos on Monday.

Governors of 17 states of Southern Nigeria has called for devolution of powers after the general meeting held in Lagos House, Ikeja, Lagos on Monday.

The governors said this in a joint communique read by the host, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos.

The governors, while reiterating their commitment to the growth of Nigeria, demanded true federalism and devolution of powers to states from the federal government.

The governors last met twelve years ago in Lagos as the inaugural summit took place in 2001 and the last in 2005.

The communique stated that the governors are commitment to true federalism and devolution of powers.

They also reiterated their commitment to a united, indivisible Nigeria but called for spread of infrastructure in the southern part of the country.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Ambode was appointed chairman of the forum while Governors Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa were appointed co-chairmen.
