Students allegedly beat teacher to coma in Kogi
Some students from Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, have allegedly attacked their Physics teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, leaving him in coma.
The suspects, reportedly senior secondary school (SS2) students touting around as cultists, have been accused of humiliating and battering Mr. Salihu as part of a broader plan to dominate the school’s operations.
The group’s alleged ring leader, identified as Abdulbatin, is said to be the son of a local traditional ruler, the Opokitipo of Esusu clan in Okengwe district.
Sources according to media reports, revealed that the attack was premeditated, aimed at intimidating school staff and asserting control over the institution.
Mr. Salihu is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital, where his condition remains critical.
One of the school teachers has however called on relevant agencies to assist the school in curbing the activities of the ‘boys’
“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, the security agencies and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action with a view to bring the perpetuators to book, forestall future occurences and instill discipline in our schools and colleges” the teachers stated.
