Dr Yunusa Tanko has stepped down as the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement to take up a new role as Political Adviser on Northern Nigeria to Peter Obi.

Tanko announced his acceptance of the appointment in a statement addressed to Obi, leaders, stakeholders and members of the movement at Obidient House in Life Camp, Abuja.

He said the new assignment would require his full attention and regular presence across Northern Nigeria, particularly as the 2027 general elections approach.

Tanko said his responsibilities would include political engagement, mobilisation and coordination across the region, while working with the movement’s structures, stakeholders, communities and supporters.

Reflecting on his two-year tenure as National Coordinator, Tanko said the movement expanded its organisational structures across the country, including regional leadership and coordination structures in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He also highlighted digital mobilisation, grassroots coordination, community engagement and an election-results monitoring system linked to the INEC Results Viewing portal as some of the initiatives developed during his tenure.

Tanko is expected to be succeeded by Dr Moses Paul, popularly known as Dr Mo, as National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement.

He described Paul as a long-standing member of the movement who had contributed to civic engagement, grassroots mobilisation and communication.

Tanko pledged to support Paul in his new role and urged the movement’s leaders, coordinators and volunteers to give him the same support.

The leadership change comes as the Obidient Movement reorganises its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
