Tears in Daura as Remi Tinubu honors Buhari
DDM News

(DDM) – As the nation comes to terms with the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, led a high-powered delegation to Daura, Katsina State, to condole with the Buhari family.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the delegation comprised members of the Governors’ Wives Forum, wives of top-ranking political figures, and other dignitaries who arrived in Daura on Saturday to pay their respects to the widow of the late president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari.
The visit came days after Buhari’s death in a London hospital on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
His remains were flown back to Nigeria and laid to rest in his hometown of Daura on Tuesday, July 15, in a solemn ceremony witnessed by political leaders, military officials, traditional rulers, and hundreds of mourners.
Remi Tinubu, who personally led the women’s delegation, offered words of comfort to Aisha Buhari and the bereaved family.
She expressed the nation’s collective grief and noted that Buhari’s life represented a legacy of discipline, integrity, and service.
In a message shared on her official 𝕏 handle, the First Lady wrote:
“Today, I paid a condolence visit to Daura, Katsina State, to commiserate with the beloved widow and family of our dearly departed former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.”
She was joined by Hajia Nana Shettima (wife of the Vice President), Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abass (wife of the Speaker), Hajia Laila Barau (wife of the Deputy Senate President), and wives of various ministers, governors, and service chiefs.
Remi Tinubu described Buhari as “not only a statesman but a symbol of integrity, discipline, and devotion to Nigeria.”
She added that his passing was a national loss and prayed that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus.
President Tinubu’s condolences were also relayed through her, as she assured the Buhari family of national solidarity in their time of grief.
The visits continued as more politicians, including Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, arrived in Daura to offer their condolences.
Kwankwaso, a 2023 presidential contender, praised Buhari’s contributions to Nigerian unity.
Saraki hailed the late president’s unwavering service to the country.
Buhari, a two-time Nigerian leader—first as military head of state (1983–1985) and later as civilian president (2015–2023)—left behind a legacy that remains controversial.
While many praised his anti-corruption stance, others criticized his economic policies, security failings, and perceived ethno-religious bias.
His passing has reignited debates over his real impact on national development, democratic growth, and regional stability.
