Three Katsina State representatives formally switched from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress during Tuesday’s plenary.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas announced their defection after receiving official notifications from the lawmakers.

The legislators explained their decision stemmed from prolonged internal PDP conflicts that hampered effective representation. They argued the party’s instability prevented them from delivering meaningful progress to constituents.

Furthermore, the defectors expressed optimism about achieving legislative goals under APC’s more stable platform. Their move strengthens APC’s dominance while dealing another blow to the struggling opposition party.

Katsina Governor Dikko Radda attended the session, signaling strong support for the defecting lawmakers. His presence highlighted the political significance of this development for both state and national politics.

This defection follows a growing trend of PDP members crossing to APC amid Nigeria’s shifting political landscape. Analysts suggest more opposition defections may occur before the next election cycle.

Meanwhile, PDP leaders face mounting pressure to address internal divisions threatening the party’s cohesion. The latest defections expose deepening cracks within Nigeria’s main opposition force.

Political observers note APC continues consolidating power through strategic recruitments across key states. This development particularly bolsters APC’s influence in President Buhari’s home state of Katsina.

The defecting lawmakers now join APC’s majority caucus in the House of Representatives. Their transition completes after fulfilling constitutional requirements for party switching.

As Nigeria’s political dynamics evolve, this move underscores APC’s growing dominance and PDP’s declining fortunes. Both parties now prepare for intensified battles ahead of future elections.
