Tinubu orders immediate action to restore peace in Benue

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has again directed security chiefs to take decisive steps toward restoring peace in Benue State. This follows recent reprisal attacks causing heavy casualties and escalating tensions.
In a June 15 statement, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser, revealed Tinubu’s deep concern over the violence. He condemned the killings as “inhuman and anti-progress,” stressing the need for urgent intervention to end hostilities and foster reconciliation.
Security forces, including intelligence, police, and military units, have deployed to Benue to restore order. Additionally, Tinubu urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to lead dialogue efforts among farmers, herders, and communities to resolve lingering disputes.
“The wanton killings in Benue are unacceptable. We must stop this bloodshed immediately,” Tinubu declared. He ordered security agencies to arrest and prosecute perpetrators from all sides, ensuring justice prevails.
The President also cautioned political and community leaders against inflammatory statements. He emphasized restraint, urging them to promote peace instead of escalating tensions through reckless rhetoric.
“Governor Alia must act as a statesman and initiate reconciliation,” Tinubu insisted. He stressed that peace is achievable if leaders collaborate fairly and address grievances with transparency and justice.
This directive highlights Tinubu’s commitment to lasting peace in Benue. He tasked local leaders with curbing incitement to violence, warning against actions that trigger further attacks.
As security operations expand, stakeholders expect Governor Alia to drive dialogue efforts. The Federal Government vows to hold perpetrators accountable while fostering an environment for sustainable development.
Benue’s crisis remains a key leadership test. Tinubu’s firm stance demonstrates his administration’s resolve to tackle Nigeria’s pressing security challenges decisively.
