President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sent a letter to the Senate seeking confirmation of Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who will now serve as Minister of State at the Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
Oyedele, a seasoned economist, accountant, and public policy expert, previously chaired the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.
The letter was read during Tuesday’s plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.
The 50-year-old economist obtained a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He also completed executive education programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and the Harvard Kennedy School.
He currently serves as a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
In a separate letter, Tinubu also asked the Senate to screen and confirm Magnus Abe as chairman of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) following the resignation of Gbenga Komolafe.
Tinubu further nominated Engineer Paul Yaro Jezhi, a former chairman of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria in Kaduna State, and Mr Sunday Adebayo Babalola, a former deputy director at the Department of Petroleum Resources, as non-executive commissioners.
However, Akpabio subsequently referred the nominations to the Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream for further legislative action.
