Tompolo Backs 21-Day Ultimatum To FG Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

(DDM) — Former Niger Delta warlord and Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has declared his full support for the 21-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that Tompolo, who is the Ibe-Ebidouwei of Gbaramatu Kingdom, made his position known on Monday through his Media Consultant, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, during a meeting with Niger Delta stakeholders in Warri, Delta State.

According to DDM findings, Tompolo expressed concern over the prolonged detention of Nnamdi Kanu despite several court rulings ordering his release.

He described the situation as “unjust, provocative, and a threat to the peace and unity of the country.”

Tompolo said the 21-day ultimatum issued by southern groups and pro-democracy activists was a legitimate demand rooted in the principles of justice and human rights.

He noted that ignoring the call could worsen regional tensions and undermine the government’s credibility.

“The call for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not just about politics,” Tompolo said. “It is about fairness, equity, and the rule of law. If the court has granted him freedom, then the government must obey that order without delay.”

He accused some political figures and security operatives of using Kanu’s detention to perpetuate division and fuel resentment between the South-East and the rest of the country.

Tompolo also used the occasion to urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to listen to the cries of marginalized groups and adopt dialogue as a tool for peacebuilding rather than force.

He stated that the Niger Delta stands in solidarity with all regions seeking justice and that he personally supports any lawful movement aimed at ending oppression and ensuring equality for all Nigerians.

“Tompolo believes that peace cannot be built on injustice,” Dr. Bebenimibo said on behalf of his principal. “The government must show leadership by upholding the law, respecting court judgments, and fostering national reconciliation.”

The ex-militant leader further noted that his endorsement of the 21-day ultimatum should not be misinterpreted as a call for violence but as an act of moral support for truth and justice.

DDM gathered that several Niger Delta groups, including youth movements and ex-agitators, have aligned with Tompolo’s stance, calling on the Federal Government to use the window of dialogue to resolve the ongoing tension surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s case.

He reiterated his loyalty to President Tinubu but urged him to act swiftly and wisely. “Supporting the President’s agenda does not mean keeping silent in the face of injustice,” Tompolo said.

“We must tell ourselves the truth, peace will remain fragile if the voices of the oppressed are ignored.”

As the 21-day ultimatum counts down, pressure continues to mount on the Federal Government to make a decisive move on Kanu’s release.

DDM notes that pro-Biafra groups, civil society organizations, and rights advocates across southern Nigeria have warned that failure to act could lead to massive nationwide protests and further deepen ethnic distrust.

Tompolo’s endorsement of the ultimatum has now given the movement a major boost, signaling growing southern solidarity around the demand for Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom and renewed calls for justice and national healing.
