Troops eliminate 82 terrorists, free 93 hostages in one-week operation

Troops engaged in internal security operations across the country have neutralized 82 terrorists.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) gathered that they detained 198 criminals and rescued 93 kidnapped victims within the past week.

They also confiscated 86 high-caliber weapons and 2,040 rounds of ammunition in various theaters of operation.

This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Markus Kangye.

According to Maj.-Gen. Kangye, troops under Operation Hadin Kai facilitated the surrender of 41 terrorists.

The terrorists comprised 10 men, 12 women, and 19 children.

He further revealed that troops stationed in the Niger Delta confiscated crude oil and other petroleum products.

The seized products were valued at over N500 million in their crackdown on illegal oil activities.

Providing a breakdown of the illicit petroleum products seized, the military spokesperson detailed that troops recovered 366,530 liters of stolen crude oil.

They also recovered 117,320 liters of illegally refined diesel and 600 liters of kerosene.

Additionally, troops uncovered and dismantled 38 crude oil distillation ovens.

They also discovered 27 dugout pits, 22 boats, three speedboats, and 60 storage tanks.

Troops found 34 drums and 32 illegal refining sites in different locations.

Security operatives also arrested 22 individuals suspected of involvement in oil theft.

They confiscated a total of 152 assorted firearms and five magazines.

Maj.-Gen. Kangye provided further insights into the arms and ammunition recovered during the operations.

Troops seized 46 AK-47 rifles, 18 locally fabricated guns, 19 dane guns, and three pump-action shotguns.

They recovered 1,165 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

They also seized 128 rounds of 7.62mm NATO cartridges and 600 rounds of 7.62 x 12.7mm ammunition.

Additionally, 51 shotgun cartridges were retrieved by troops.

The recent successes of the troops underscore the military’s ongoing commitment to eradicating terrorism and banditry.

They are also focused on tackling other criminal activities that threaten national security.

The Defence Headquarters emphasized that these achievements were part of intensified military offensives.
