The Nigerian Army’s Operation UDO KA (OPUK) has rescued 14 people abducted in Orokam Forest, on the border of Enugu and Benue states.
The victims, taken while returning from a burial, were freed on Friday after troops and local vigilantes raided the kidnappers’ hideout following a tip-off.
The gunmen fired at the rescuers but fled as the troops countered with superior firepower.
The hostages, seized from Ezimo Agu in Enugu and Orokam in Benue, have been handed over to the Udenu Division police for profiling and reunification with their families.
The army has intensified patrols in the area to curb criminal activities and protect residents, reaffirming its commitment to securing citizens.
