Troops repel attack in Taraba, gun down 4 bandits

Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade, deployed under Operation Peace Shield, neutralized four armed militia members in a clash with security forces in Usmanu village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The confrontation occurred on November 29, after soldiers received distress calls about renewed tensions between the Shomo and Wurkun communities, which had led to the burning of 15 homes.

Upon arrival, the soldiers came under fire from approximately 50 armed assailants but managed to overpower them.

The military recovered one fabricated AK-47 rifle, three dane guns, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two motorcycles.

One key suspect believed to be collaborating with the armed group was arrested and is undergoing interrogation.

A police officer was also arrested for allegedly operating alongside the armed militia and is being investigated

The Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their prompt response, bravery, and adherence to professional rules of engagement.

He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as stability is restored and encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.
