Trump says ‘Cuba is going to fall pretty soon’ amid talk of possible deal

United States PresidentDonald Trump has said that Cuba could soon experience major political changes, claiming the island nation is eager to reach a deal with the United States.

Trump made the remarks during a phone interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Friday while discussing what he described as military successes during his second term in office.

“Cuba is going to fall pretty soon, by the way. Unrelated, but Cuba is going to fall too. They want to make a deal so badly,” Trump said during the interview.

The U.S. president suggested that his administration could send Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the Caribbean nation if negotiations with Havana begin.

“They want to make a deal, and so I’m going to put Marco over there, and we’ll see how that works out,” Trump said, adding that his administration is currently focused on the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

Focus on Iran Conflict

Trump noted that while discussions about Cuba may come later, the White House’s immediate priority remains the escalating tensions in the Middle East following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran.

The strikes, launched about a week earlier, marked a major escalation in a long-running dispute over Tehran’s nuclear programme, regional influence and stalled diplomatic negotiations.

‘Question of Time’

Speaking earlier at the White House, Trump also said it was only a matter of time before Americans of Cuban origin would be able to return freely to their homeland.

“He’s doing some job, and your next one is going to be, we want to do that special Cuba,” Trump said while referring to Rubio, suggesting the secretary of state may play a role in future diplomatic engagement with Havana.

Trump added that he had closely followed developments in Cuba for decades and believes the political situation there has shifted significantly.

“I’ve been watching it for 50 years,” he said. “And it’s fallen right into my lap.”

The comments come at a time of heightened geopolitical tension as Washington balances its focus on multiple global issues, including the conflict with Iran and ongoing diplomatic challenges in other regions.
