Two separate accidents in Ogun State have resulted in the deaths of two unidentified pedestrians.

Diaspora digital media (DDM) reports that the accidents happened at different locations along major highways in the state.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the two incidents occurred on Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon.

The first accident took place at Ilepa along the Abeokuta-Lagos Motorway.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on March 5, 2025.

A Mitsubishi car with registration number KTU 681 DP was involved in the accident.

The vehicle was driven by Ezekiel Sanyaolu, who was traveling from Abeokuta to Lagos.

Reports state that the driver lost control of the car while on the highway.

The vehicle veered across the road median and struck a pedestrian.

The victim suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash.

Emergency responders rushed the injured person to Ifo General Hospital.

Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital later confirmed the pedestrian’s death.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident.

She said the victim’s body had been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.

She also stated that Motor Traffic Police officers visited the scene for assessment.

The officers conducted an initial investigation to document the accident.

The vehicle involved was later taken to the police station for further examination.

Officials from the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) and road safety authorities will inspect the car.

A second fatal accident happened on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

This accident occurred at Kajola Village along the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway.

It took place around 4:00 p.m. in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.

She stated that law enforcement officers documented the accident scene.

The officers sketched a rough map of the location to assist in their investigation.

Authorities will conduct further investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) will inspect the Lexus car for any possible defects.

These latest accidents have raised concerns over road safety in Ogun State.

Many accidents in the region have been linked to reckless driving and pedestrian negligence.

In December 2024, PUNCH Metro reported similar fatal accidents in Ogun State.

Two pedestrians lost their lives in separate accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan and Ijebu-Ode Expressways.

Just like the recent cases, those accidents involved pedestrians being struck by moving vehicles.

Reacting to the latest accidents, Odutola advised road users to be more cautious.

She warned that many road accidents result from carelessness and failure to observe safety rules.

She urged pedestrians to always check for oncoming vehicles before crossing highways.

She also advised drivers to maintain safe speeds and remain alert while driving.

“The need for caution on our roads cannot be overemphasized,” she stated.

She stressed that both pedestrians and motorists must take responsibility for road safety.

Investigations into both accidents are still ongoing.

The police will provide further details as more findings emerge.

Authorities are working on new strategies to prevent more accidents on Ogun highways.

The Ogun State Police Command is collaborating with other agencies to improve road safety measures.

Officials are expected to enforce stricter traffic regulations to reduce accidents in the state.

Meanwhile, residents and travelers have been urged to stay alert on the highways.

Motorists and pedestrians should strictly follow all road safety guidelines.
