*Calls for calm
The ousted Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Iyom Uche Ekwunife [pictured above] has declared readiness to petition the National Judicial Commission [NJC] over the Appeal Court judgement which earlier today nullified her election.
According to Hon Eneh Victor Chigozie who disclosed this through the APGA Interactive Forum, a source confided that Iyom Ekwunife was shocked with the decision of the Appeal Court.
The source added that the Court went far to deliver judgement against the prayers sought by her All Progressives Grand Alliance [APGA] counterpart, Victor Umeh.
The sourced alleged that Chief Victor Umeh was asking the appeal to nullify only 47 wards out of the 109 wards in Anambra Central Senatorial zone where he claimed there were irregularities.
However, the Appeal Court over-zealously went beyond this prayer to nullify the entire election, an apparent violation of court practices, hence the intent to petition NJC.
In the meantime, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the date to be announced by the Independent national Electoral Election [INEC] for the re-run election.
Meanwhile, Ekwunife has called on her supporters and the people of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone to remain calm following the decision of the Appeal Court that nullified her election and ordered a fresh election within 90 days.
Senator Ekwunife who expressed optimism that she will win election into the senatorial zone anytime any day further sued for peace, describing the judgement as fatal to principles of democracy.
She further called on the people of Anambra Central senatorial zone to remain calm in the face of the judgment, adding that with the overwhelming support they gave her during the election, she will still emerge victorious when the election is conducted.
“The judgement is a judgement of man. The court acted as a Father Christmas by awarding to Chief Victor Umeh what he did not ask.
“But I take the judgement in good faith believing that my victory at the polls was an act of God. I assure my supporters that we will emerge victorious even as I thank Ndi Anambra central for their supports so far”.
