Ukpum Ete Unity Cup exists for talent discovery – Organizer

The Uwem Sunday James Foundation’s 2024 Ukpum Ete Unity Cup has successfully come to a close, with Abasiute village emerging as the champion.

However, the true significance of this event lies in its potential to unearth and develop world-class sporting talents from the grassroots level.

According to Mr. Uwem Sunday James, the sponsor of the tournament, the exceptional skills displayed by the young athletes during the competition left him convinced that they have what it takes to excel in national leagues and even represent the country at the international level.

This sentiment is shared by HRH Etebom Nsikan Etukudom, the Clan Head of Ukpum Ete, who praised the organizers and sponsors for their unwavering support.

HRH Etebom Nsikan Etukudom emphasized the importance of harnessing the potential of youths in sports, highlighting the role that initiatives like the Ukpum Ete Unity Cup play in unifying people, touching lives, and developing human capacity at the community level.

He called on other well-meaning Nigerians, corporate bodies, and NGOs to emulate the Uwem Sunday James Foundation’s efforts in promoting grassroots sports development.

The tournament’s winning teams were rewarded with cash prizes of N100,000, N70,000, and N50,000 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions, respectively.

Medals and trophies were also presented to all categories, serving as a testament to the organizers’ commitment to recognizing and rewarding excellence.

The ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the past President of Mboho Ukpum Ete, Engr. Nsima Edittu, and other sports enthusiasts in Akwa Ibom State.
