Major General Pavel Klimenko

Major General Pavel Klimenko, the commander of the Russian 5th Separate Motor Rifle Brigade, has been killed in battle while engaging Ukrainian troops.

The death of 47-year-old General, marks a heavy blow to the Russian authorities, as he becomes the eighth Russian officer of general rank to be killed since the onset of the war.

Before his death, General Klimenko was accused of organizing a torture camp and taking money from his subordinates in exchange for moving them off the front lines.

Investigation by an online publication Astra, in August said the torture camp organized by Klimenko was for Russian soldiers on the territory of an abandoned mine in Donetsk.

According to a post on the verified X handle of Visegrad24, on Thursday, Klimenko was reportedly leading his brigade in the contested region when he was struck down.

The information was also confirmed through sources linked to the @KilledInUkraine platform, which tracks the losses sustained by Russian forces in the war.

Meanwhile, his death underscores the continuing toll on Russian high-ranking officers as intense combat continues across multiple fronts.
