Fresh airstrikes struck Iran’s capital, Tehran, on Saturday as the conflict between Israel and Iran entered its seventh day, further escalating a war that has already spread across parts of the Middle East.
Smoke and flames were seen rising from the area around Mehrabad International Airport after Israeli forces launched what they described as “broad-scale” attacks on targets in the Iranian capital.
Iranian state media reported a powerful explosion in the western part of the city as the strikes intensified.
The latest bombardment comes amid a rapidly expanding conflict involving the United States and several regional actors.
Countries in the Gulf region have reported attempts by Iran and its allies to retaliate.
Air defense systems in Saudi Arabia and Dubai intercepted incoming drones and missiles early Saturday, according to local authorities.
The continued exchanges highlight fears that the confrontation could widen into a broader regional war.
U.S. President Donald Trump raised the stakes further, declaring there would be no negotiations with Iran unless it agrees to “unconditional surrender.”
According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), U.S. forces have already struck more than 3,000 targets inside Iran since the joint U.S.–Israeli offensive began last weekend.
Speaking in an interview with CNN, Trump said he was not concerned about whether Iran eventually becomes a democratic state, emphasizing that Washington’s priority remains eliminating Iran’s military capabilities.
Global leaders have warned that the conflict could spiral further out of control.
António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, cautioned that the war “could spiral beyond anyone’s control” if hostilities continue to escalate.
Meanwhile, Kurdish groups in northern Iraq have also been caught up in the conflict.
After reports emerged that the Central Intelligence Agency was working to arm Iranian Kurdish fighters, several camps belonging to the groups were struck by drones and missiles.
Residents of one camp in Northern Iraq reported repeated attacks, underscoring how the war is expanding beyond Iran’s borders.
