Ulasi to PDP: Swallow pride, bring back Peter Obi for 2027

The Former Anambra State PDP Chairman, Dan Ulasi, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party to reach out to Peter Obi.

Ulasi made the call during a live appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday April 23, 2025.

He described Obi as a “factor of progress” and a crucial player in Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to Ulasi, Obi’s six million votes in 2023 show he has strong national support.

He warned the PDP not to overlook Obi’s influence ahead of the 2027 general election.

“Obi has integrity, capacity, and credibility,” Ulasi said. “He is one of the few with performance records.”

Ulasi said the PDP should focus on securing Nigeria’s future, not individual ambitions or party supremacy.

He stated, “We need leadership for better governance, not just a better party or a popular name.”

Obi was Atiku Abubakar’s running mate during the 2019 presidential election under the PDP.

In 2022, he defected to the Labour Party and contested the 2023 election as its flag bearer.

Despite being a newcomer to the LP, Obi garnered over six million votes across the country.

He came third, behind APC’s Bola Tinubu and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar.

Ulasi argued that Obi’s performance confirms his status as a national figure with broad appeal.

He noted that the PDP should not allow internal jealousy to block strategic political decisions.

“If there are no overly ambitious individuals, the party should approach Obi without hesitation,” he said.

Recent developments within the PDP have seen major figures defect to the APC.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Vice Presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa are among those who left.

Ulasi described their defections as selfish and politically unpatriotic.

He challenged them to publicly declare their achievements after eight years in office.

He said, “I want them to hold a press conference and tell Nigerians what they’ve achieved.”

Despite these defections, PDP governors recently rejected Atiku’s coalition with Peter Obi and other opposition figures.

The coalition reportedly aims to defeat President Tinubu in 2027.

Ulasi warned the PDP not to ignore opportunities to build a winning front.

He revealed he has the personal network to engage Obi if the party seeks reconciliation.

He said, “If they ask, I have enough access to Obi to bring him to the table.”

Ulasi concluded that Nigeria’s future depends on strong alliances among trusted political leaders.
