Nigeria’s Minister of Works Dave Umahi has stirred reactions following remarks aimed at Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Responding to comments attributed to Obi, Umahi downplayed the significance of being a presidential candidate, stating that he does not consider it a major achievement.
“Being a presidential candidate is not an achievement. I don’t see any big deal in being a presidential candidate,” he said.
The minister went further to assert his own professional standing, describing himself as operating at a higher level, particularly in his field of expertise.
“I belong to a level a little higher than what he belongs to. As a professor in infrastructure, I don’t need to be a presidential candidate to educate you,” he added.
The statement has since sparked mixed reactions across political circles and social media, with supporters and critics weighing in on the exchange. While some defended Umahi’s emphasis on professional expertise, others viewed the remarks as dismissive and unnecessary.
The development adds to ongoing political discourse in the country, highlighting the sharp exchanges that continue to define Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
