UNIZIK VC seeks enhanced entrepreneurship dev’t learning

The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Joe Ahaneku [above] has charged students that the new area of study, i.e. Entrepreneurship Development, should be taken seriously.

According to him, it is hoped to change the face of development in the country. He therefore charged the students to remain very committed to their studies.

In a remark at the occasion of the university’s annual thanksgiving service and the valedictory ceremony for the outgoing Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof Steve Ibenta, Ahaneku stated that the study of Entrepreneurship development should be taken seriously as, according to him, it is hoped to change the face of development in the country.

Entrepreneurship, the Vice-Chancellor noted was a new development strategy by which theoretical formulations were given effect and concretized into realty.

In his valedictory address, Prof Ibenta described the occasion as one set aside to afford the faculty members, students and well-wishers to relax in a convivial atmosphere to assess the achievements recorded so far in the faculty. 

And since the year’s ceremony, Ibenta said, coincided with the matriculation of fresh students, it was also a moment to share with the new students the joy of the new hope and self-actualization, emphasizing that a situation where only about six candidates managed to gain admission was no mean fact.

The outgoing dean therefore called on the new students to see their new status as a turning point in their academic career designed to equip them intellectually to play productive roles in the society as responsible citizens. 

Professor Ibenta used the opportunity to pay glowing tributes to the founding fathers and former Vice-Chancellor of the university such as Professors Pita Ejiofor and Boniface Egboka who he said transformed the erstwhile “university in the bush” to which is now acclaimed as the ‘university of the moment’.

According to World Bank Report, Professor Ibenta said, “rich countries are largely rich because of the skills of their populations and the quality of their institutions” and said that Nnamdi Azikiwe has become one of such institutions supporting the business activities in the country.

The ceremony witnessed the commissioning of some projects in the faculty and presentation of prizes.

Present at the occasion were the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Ahaneku, the former Vice-Chancellors Prof Pita Ejiofor, and Prof Boniface Egboka, as well as the former Vice-Chancellor of Anambra State University, Prof Iheanacho P. Orajaka, among other dignitaries.
