Update: Udo Ga Achi kills Anambra lady, PG blames DSS

It is said that power intoxicates, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Perhaps, this axiom best describes the newly established Anambra security outfit, Operation Udo Ga Achi.

The security unit, in a convoy of at least six vehicles, invaded Mgbakwu community in Awka North Local Government Area of the state on Monday, 17th March 2025.

The officials shot carelessly and recklessly in the air.

This scared away onlookers, including traders at the popular Nkwo market, Mgbakwu.

Piteously, in the course of this operation, a young lady, whose name is not disclosed, was shot.

She died instantly.

The victim had reportedly undergone a surgery operation and returned two days earlier until her untimely demise.

Amidst the hail of gunfire, an elderly woman riding on a moving motorbike faced a tragic incident when a second motorcycle collided with hers, causing her to fall.

In the chaos, her rider, attempting to flee in panic, left her in a dire situation.

She suffered multiple injuries and was promptly placed in a tricycle to be taken to the nearest hospital.

The motive of the security operation is still unclear.

However, following this incident, residents of the community took to the streets to vent their anger against the officials.

From the notable Odogwu Plaza to Mgbakwu Police station, protesters escorted the corpse of the victim, placed in mortuary vehicle.

The crowd said that from the police station it would head for the Anambra state government house to have an interaction with Governor Charlse Soludo.

When officials of the Diaspora Digital Media arrived at the scene of the incident, they elicited differing opinions from members of the crowd.

One source stated that the Udo Ga Achi operatives had stormed the same community a day before and abducted three undisclosed persons without basis.

He proceeded to say that the invasion and kidnap of alleged innocent persons by the operatives had become a norm.

This spurred natives of the community to outrightly pronounce words of rejection against them.

When contacted, the President General of Mgbakwu community, Chief Edwin Udefuna, blamed operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) for the incident.

However, a DSS official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, denied the allegation that DSS operatives were involved.

He stated categorically that operatives of Operation Udo Ga Achi were responsible.

He said that DSS had not carried out any operation recently in the community, hence could not be culpable.

Further, he observed that the weapon used in the woman’s killing was not an English firearm.

It was a pump-action gun, which Udo Ga Achi operatives are known to handle recklessly.

What is Udo Ga Achi?

The Anambra State government established the Udo Ga Achi operatives with the aim of enhancing security and maintaining peace across the region.

Initially welcomed as a proactive measure to curb crime, the group quickly gained prominence for their bold operations.

However, their methods have raised eyebrows, as reports of extra-judicial activities and reckless behavior have surfaced.

Allegations of unlawful arrests and excessive use of force have cast a shadow over their mission.

They leave many questioning whether their actions align with the principles of justice and order.

In response to these troubling developments, several communities in the state have begun to voice their discontent.

Protests and public outcries have emerged.

Residents have called on the Governor to address the situation before it spirals out of control.

The growing dissatisfaction highlights the delicate balance between ensuring security and upholding the rule of law.

As tensions rise, the need for decisive intervention becomes increasingly urgent to restore trust and prevent further unrest.
