US-Based Nigerian Urges Tinubu to Confront Trump Over War Threat

(DDM) – A United States-based Nigerian, Baba Adam, has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and top Nigerian leaders, urging urgent diplomatic and political response to what he described as a “reckless and unprecedented” threat of military action against Nigeria by former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that in his letter, Baba Adam cautioned that the recent remarks allegedly made by Trump concerning Nigeria’s internal situation could destabilize West Africa if not swiftly addressed through high-level diplomacy.

He advised President Tinubu to immediately rally Nigeria’s allies across Europe, Asia, and Africa to resist what he called an “imperial provocation” capable of undermining Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“You may want to activate your relationship with the French leadership, even though we think they are weak and cannot challenge the USA… but it is a good test to see if they are true friends of Nigeria,” Baba Adam wrote in part.

DDM reports that Baba Adam’s letter, now circulating widely on social media, called on Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon the U.S. Ambassador in Abuja for a formal explanation of Trump’s comments, while also engaging the United Nations and the African Union to condemn any talk of external aggression.

He further urged Nigeria’s security establishment to remain on alert, describing the rhetoric as “a deliberate attempt to provoke confusion and fear among citizens.”

According to Baba Adam, the time has come for African nations to stand up collectively against intimidation and unilateralism from world powers.

He wrote: “If the world must be fair, then no nation, no matter how powerful, should threaten another under the guise of concern for human rights. Nigeria must never bow to pressure or threats from any external power.”

DDM learned that his letter also copied several prominent figures, including members of the National Assembly, former African leaders, business executives, and civil society groups, urging them to speak out in defense of Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

Baba Adam described the Trump statement as “reckless,” noting that it has already caused diplomatic ripples among Nigeria’s allies, who now seek clarity on the country’s next course of action.

Political observers say the intervention reflects growing anxiety among Nigerians abroad following Washington’s recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” a move that has triggered fears of sanctions or military involvement.

In his concluding remarks, Baba Adam emphasized that Nigeria must demonstrate unity and firmness at this critical moment.

He stated that while constructive dialogue with the U.S. remains essential, “Nigeria’s response must also send a clear message that the era of foreign intimidation is over.”
