Trump calls for 20,000 new officers to assist in deportations

US President Donald Trump on Thursday, April 3, 2025, unveiled the first “gold card”, a residency permit sold for $5 million each, aboard Air Force One.

The Republican president told reporters that the special visa would probably be available “in less than two weeks”.

He did this, holding a prototype that bore his face and an inscription “The Trump Card”.

“I’m the first buyer,” he said. “Pretty exciting, huh?”

Trump previously said that sales of the new visa, would bring in job creators and could be used to reduce the US national deficit.

The new visa is a high-price version of the traditional green card,

Trump, the billionaire former real estate tycoon, said the new card would be a route to highly prized US citizenship.

Donald Trump has made the deportation of millions of undocumented migrants a priority for his second term.

He said in February that his administration hoped to sell “maybe a million” of the cards and did not rule out that Russian oligarchs may be eligible.

BACKGROUND

While there is no specific “Trump Gold Card Visa,” the concept is often associated with the EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program.

The program has been linked to the Trump Organization in various reports.

The EB-5 Visa is a U.S. government program that provides a pathway to permanent residency (a Green Card) for foreign investors.

It also gives permanent residency to their immediate family members, in exchange for a significant investment (typically at least $1 million or $500,000 in targeted employment areas).

These investors must also demonstrate that their investment will create jobs for U.S. workers.

The connection to Donald Trump comes from his family’s real estate empire.

In the past, Trump properties and associated entities have been involved in promoting EB-5 investment opportunities.

This is particularly through luxury real estate projects like Trump Tower or resorts.

Why It Gained Attention:

  • Luxury Real Estate and Immigration: Donald Trump’s business dealings with foreign investors, including Chinese nationals, drew attention during his presidential campaign.

His organization marketed real estate opportunities that could qualify investors for the EB-5 program. Some of these marketing efforts included promises of expedited or preferential treatment for the visa application.

  • Political Sensitivity: The Trump Organization’s involvement in the EB-5 program became politically sensitive during his presidential campaign

This was because of concerns over foreign influence and the idea that individuals with wealth could “buy” a pathway to U.S. residency.

Critics pointed out potential conflicts of interest or ethical concerns about business dealings with foreign investors.

  • Immigration Policy: Trump’s presidency focused on stricter immigration policies, including attempts to limit programs like EB-5.

However, the Trump Organization continued to benefit from the program during his time in office.

In Conclusion:

The “Trump Gold Card Visa” refers indirectly to the immigration benefits granted to foreign investors who participate in the EB-5 program.

The program has been marketed by entities associated with Trump.

This was part of broader conversations on immigration policy, wealth, and access to U.S. residency that took place during his political career.
