Vinicius Jr. risks two-year ban from football

Brazil and Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior (24) could face a shock two-year ban from professional football.

FIFA is investigating the Brazilian’s potential violations of international rules regarding multi-club financial involvement.

The star winger is being linked to two professional clubs, which breaches FIFA’s Code of Ethics.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the player has come under scrutiny following a formal complaint filed by Tiberis Holding do Brasil to FIFA’s Ethics Committee on April 7.

Tiberis previously held a 16.5% stake in Athletic Club of São João del Rei, a Brazilian team recently promoted to Serie B.

The company claims it was bypassed in a share acquisition deal, where controlling ownership was allegedly transferred to ALL Agenciamento Esportivo, a company owned by Vinicius and his father, Thacilo Soares.

The Alverca connection
FIFA’s concerns have grown due to Vinicius’s reported connections with Portuguese club Alverca, raising red flags over potential conflicts of interest in international transfers.

A recent loan deal involving Rafael Conceição, who moved from São João del Rei to Alverca, is believed to be one of the triggers for the probe.

According to FIFA regulations, active players are not allowed to own or have control over multiple professional football clubs. And the maximum penalty for this violation is a two-year suspension.

In addition to the risk of being suspended, Vinicius could also face a substantial financial fine and may be forced to relinquish certain shares he currently holds.

On the pitch, Vinicius is not having his best season, but still produces good numbers. He scored 20 goals and provided 14 assists in 46 matches for Real Madrid across all competitions.

He also turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia and reportedly he will extend his stay at the Bernabeu. According to Spanish media, he will pen a new three-year deal until 2030.

However, this ongoing investigation casts a shadow over his future. If he is found guilty, his career could suffer a major setback.

Vinicius at Real Madrid
The Brazilian has been playing for Real Madrid since 2018, when he transferred from Flamengo. So far, Vinicius Junior has won the following trophies with ‘Los Blancos’:

3 La Liga titles (2020, 2022, 2024)
3 Spanish Super Cups (2020, 2022, 2024)
2 UEFA Champions League (2022, 2024)
2 UEFA Super Cups (2022, 2024)
2 FIFA Club World Cups (2018, 2022)
1 Intercontinental Cup (2024)
1 Copa del Rey (2023).
