(DDM) – The wife of Delta State Governor and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, has launched a transformative health and fitness initiative aimed at promoting wellness, unity, and spiritual renewal among women across the state.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the event, tagged “You Matter Walk for Life,” took place in Asaba on Saturday and drew hundreds of enthusiastic women dressed in colorful fitness outfits.
The walk commenced at the Inter Bau Roundabout and extended through Anwai–Illah Road to the First Lady’s office at the new Government House.
Participants engaged in prayers, songs of praise, and motivational interactions that fostered togetherness and encouraged personal growth.
According to Mrs. Oborevwori, the exercise was both a physical challenge and a spiritual journey, symbolizing a 10,000-step stride toward transformation and collective empowerment.
She expressed her excitement over the massive turnout, describing it as “a powerful reflection of women’s unity and shared determination to live healthier, more purposeful lives.”
The Delta First Lady urged women to embrace active lifestyles, shed unhealthy habits, and prioritize regular exercise as a means to strengthen both the body and the mind.
“It’s essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle, shed unnecessary weight, and stay active,” she said.
“A strong body gives us the energy, clarity, and confidence to achieve our goals and fulfill our divine purpose.”
She also emphasized that faith and fitness must go hand in hand, explaining that walking together in faith strengthens spiritual resolve and fosters inner peace.
The initiative, she added, will become a regular feature of her foundation’s programs, aimed at encouraging wellness, self-discipline, and social connection among women in Delta communities.
Mrs. Oborevwori further commended the Federal Road Safety Corps, fitness trainers, and numerous volunteers whose efforts ensured the safety and success of the walk.
In her remarks, Mrs. Timiebi Oborevwori, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, praised the governor’s wife for her compassion, dedication, and leadership in advancing women’s welfare.
She noted that the You Matter Walk for Life represents more than a fitness campaign, it is a movement for women’s empowerment, healthy nutrition, and preventive health awareness across Delta State and beyond.
The event, observers say, underscores the spirit of the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda, which continues to integrate community development, health education, and gender inclusion into its governance philosophy.
Public health experts have also commended the initiative as a model for other states, urging more leaders’ spouses and community influencers to champion fitness and preventive healthcare as key strategies to reduce lifestyle-related diseases among Nigerian women.
As music, prayer, and motivation filled the air during the walk, participants celebrated not only physical endurance but also a shared vision of wellness, unity, and purpose.
For many, it was more than just a morning exercise, it was a symbol of sisterhood and hope, walking together toward a healthier, happier Delta.
