Nigerian rapper Ice Prince has opened up about his early connection with music duo P-Square, revealing that he attended the same secondary school as the twin brothers in Jos, Plateau State.
The rapper shared the memory while reflecting on the influence P-Square had on him and other young people who grew up in the city.
According to Ice Prince, he attended St. Murumba’s College in Jos, the same school attended by Peter and Paul Okoye, popularly known as P-Square.
“I went to the same secondary school as P-Square in Jos, St. Murumba’s College. We used to call them ‘Smooth Criminals’ in school,” he said.
Ice Prince recalled that watching the twins eventually achieve major success in the Nigerian music industry gave him a stronger belief that someone from his part of the country could also make it on a bigger stage.
“So when they blew up, it made me believe someone from this side of the world could make it too,” he added.
P-Square rose to prominence as one of Nigeria’s most successful music duos, producing several hit songs and building a strong following across Africa and beyond.
For Ice Prince, their success represented more than just another major music breakthrough. It served as proof that young talents from Jos and other parts of northern Nigeria could pursue careers in the entertainment industry and achieve national and international recognition.
The rapper himself would later become one of Nigeria’s prominent hip-hop acts, further establishing Jos as an important breeding ground for musical talent.
His recollection has since attracted attention from fans, particularly those interested in the early lives of some of Nigeria’s biggest music stars.
