We don’t put our parents in retirement homes in Africa — Phyno

Award-winning Nigerian rapper, Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike, aka Phyno, has expressed strong objection to the idea of relocating elderly parents to retirement homes or residential care facilities abroad.

Phyno aired his views on the matter in a podcast recently.

He said, “We don’t put our dads in retirement homes in Africa. I know where I come from, and I know how we treat our fathers.

“I wouldn’t put my dad in a retirement home, even if he was here (abroad). I would rather find a way around it. Here in the Western world, when you put your dads in retirement homes, you pay for it, right?

“In Africa, we would rather pay people to look after him at home than put him in a facility with others. That’s not how it works, and it never will”.
