Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has spoken candidly about the evolution of her relationship with fellow screen icon Genevieve Nnaji, revealing that the two actresses gradually drifted apart over time.
In a reflective comment, Henshaw explained that there was no specific incident behind the distance, but rather a natural separation that occurred as their careers and lives evolved. She noted that in the past, Nollywood productions were more tightly knit, with cast members spending significant time together during rehearsals, shoots, and cast gatherings a structure that helped build strong personal bonds.
“We grew apart. Maybe she had some kind of mistrust about me… I don’t know what happened. I don’t know what came over her,” she said, describing the shift in their once-close relationship.
Henshaw also reflected on how the industry itself has changed over the years, pointing out that earlier Nollywood productions often involved more collaborative processes, including rehearsals and cast interactions that strengthened on-screen chemistry. According to her, modern productions are now faster-paced, with actors sometimes receiving scripts on the same day of filming, leaving less room for deep bonding.
Her remarks have since sparked conversations among fans about friendship dynamics in the entertainment industry, especially between long-standing colleagues who rose to fame during Nollywood’s earlier years.
She also referenced other respected colleagues such as Rita Dominic, with fans debating how such long-time friendships might evolve under the pressures of fame and time.
While her comments were largely seen as nostalgic rather than controversial, they highlight the changing nature of relationships in Nollywood as the industry continues to grow and modernize.
