We Have Not merged with UPP – APGA’s Factional Chair

Chief Nwabueze Okafor, The factional Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA,  has denied the purported fusion of the party with the United Progressives Party, UPP.

Chief Okafor said that APGA did not merge with any other political party, saying more people had been joining APGA across the federation since he became the Acting National Chairman of the party.

He spoke against the background of Friday’s defection of some leaders and members of APGA to UPP, a party founded by APGA’s former National Chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie.

“It was not a full squad of APGA, but you can say some people went to join another party. There have been movements of people across party lines. Political beliefs can change. Mr. Okafor said.

“What took place was not a merger of APGA to any political party. These are people who had left APGA before to join other parties. More people are joining than those that are leaving.”

Uche had visited the UPP leader, Okorie, with the Deputy National Chairman of APGA, Alhaji Masala; Dr. Isa Jegga; South-West Leader of APGA, Osonubi Adekunle; Leader of APGA in South-South, Sunday Obasahuan, and a member of the BoT of APGA, Professor Francis Dike (SAN), who all pledged loyalty to UPP.

Uche had said on the occasion that “with the fusion of the authentic APGA structure into UPP, any other group parading its members as those of APGA are impostors and charlatans.”

Masala also said: “APGA betrayed Chekwas Okorie, hence the party was swimming in crisis for more than 10 years, but we have decided to fuse with UPP  and bury APGA.”
