Why NAHCON returned N4.48billion hajj funds to states, operators
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) announced it has returned N4.48 billion to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards, and the military.
NAHCON’s chief of public affairs, Mr. Muhammad Musa, said in a statement on Thursday that the refunds are because Saudi authorities did not offer adequate Masha’ir energy services during the 2023 hajj.
Musa went on to say that N917.15 million had also been returned to 192 authorized tour operators for use in paying their pilgrims.
He stated that any unpaid balances owed to other businesses will be paid following reconciliation.
He pointed out that each pilgrim should get in touch with their state welfare agencies, commissions, or tour operators to request their N61,080 return.
In order to enable timely arrangements in accordance with Saudi Arabian regulations, the spokesperson asked pilgrims planning to do the 2025 hajj to swiftly deposit their fares with their state welfare boards.
He emphasized NAHCON’s dedication to openness under the direction of its chairman, Abdullahi Saleh.
“In the interest of due process, NAHCON calls upon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and other security agencies to monitor the refund process”, the statement reads.
“This collaboration aims to ensure that all refunds reach the intended beneficiaries without discrepancy”.
