The deputy leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Uche-Mefor has vehemently condemned World Igbo Congress for supporting Eastern Security Network (ESN) which was created by the leader of the movement, Nnamdi Kanu.
Mefor in a statement said World Igbo Congress is bringing itself to ridicule. He accused the social cultural organization of funding a militia group.
He said World Igbo Congress will be remembered for openly canvassing support for and initiating the proliferation of militia groups in Biafra land and in Igbo land in particular.

Moreover, he said the security of an entire nation/region/people and firearms are not deliberately left unregulated let alone being left in the hands and under the control of unregulated non state actors unless what you want is lawlessness.
Mefor said, “You people are bringing yourselves to ridicule. What you are funding is a militia. WIC will be remembered for openly canvasing support for and initiating the proliferation of militia groups in Biafraland and in Igboland in particular.
“Security of an entire nation/region/people and firearms are not deliberately left unregulated let alone being left in the hands and under the control of unregulated non state actors unless what you want is lawlessness.
The estranged deputy leader of IPOB further said even the United states that tried it has seen the catastrophic consequences.
“Even the United States that tried it by arming such has seen the consequences. Unless what you want is lawlessness, anarchy and chaos and not security in the first place, you must consult and work with legitimate stakeholders in the area. Let me tell you that what you are funding is a private army and militia of some sort, yet, you want security of lives and property.
“WIC, you are going to turn Biafraland into a theatre of war and help to recreate Nnamdi Kanu’s scenario of Syria and Yemen in Biafraland.
Mefor however, urged World Igbo Congress to be responsible and work with stakeholders in the Southeast region to get it right.
“WIC must be responsible and work with stakeholders in Biafraland to get it right. For instance, there are existing security outfits before ESN from the local vigilante to the state governments’ own security outfits. How have you reconciled and harmonised them? What about enabling laws and rules of engagement?
“Biafraland is not an Empire and certainly not going to entertain Emperor (s). Do not turn our land into avoidable humanitarian crisis for every operation is strategically planned and perfected before implementation. This one lacks tact and finesse!”
