Wiz Khalifa has opened up about his decision to stop drinking alcohol, revealing that he became concerned after realizing he could no longer remember some of the places he had visited or experiences he had during his years of touring.
The rapper explained that drinking had been a major part of his lifestyle throughout his career. He said he enjoyed partying and had never really felt the need to stop because he genuinely loved the lifestyle that came with it.
However, that changed after one particular experience at a show left him questioning how much he was actually experiencing and remembering.
According to Wiz Khalifa, he got heavily intoxicated during a performance and later realized that he could barely remember the places he had toured or the memories he had created along the way.
The realization reportedly made him reconsider his relationship with alcohol.
Rather than continuing to drink through his performances and travels, Wiz decided to become sober so he could remain present and actually remember the experiences that came with his career.
He explained that he wanted to know where he had been, remember the people he met and appreciate the moments surrounding his performances instead of having those memories blurred by alcohol.
For the rapper, the decision was therefore not simply about giving up partying. It was about being more present in his own life and being able to look back on his career with clear memories.
Wiz Khalifa has spent years building a career closely associated with music, touring and a party-oriented lifestyle, making his decision to stop drinking a notable change from the image many fans have become familiar with.
His explanation also highlights how his priorities have changed over time. What once felt like an enjoyable part of his lifestyle eventually became something he felt was preventing him from fully experiencing the life he had worked to build.
By choosing sobriety, Wiz said he now wants to be more engaged with his surroundings and the people around him while creating memories that he will actually be able to remember.
The rapper’s revelation has since drawn attention from fans, particularly because he was open about the fact that he continued drinking for years because he enjoyed it, rather than because he felt pressured to quit.
His decision ultimately came after realizing that some of the experiences he had spent years working toward were becoming memories he could not even recall.
