A woman identified as Mrs Rukayat Mohammed has been arrested following the death of a man at a guest house in Gwarimpa, Abuja, and the subsequent disposal of his body under a bridge.
According to details from the police investigation, Rukayat reportedly lodged at Good Samaritan Guest House in Gwarimpa with the deceased, said to be her boyfriend, to spend time together.
The situation reportedly took a tragic turn while the pair were inside the room. Rukayat allegedly told investigators that after they had spent time together, the man was about to use the restroom when he suddenly slumped.
She reportedly claimed that the man was ill and was taking medication before the incident.
Instead of immediately raising an alarm or contacting the police, Rukayat allegedly took the man’s mobile phone and left the guest house.
Concern reportedly arose among hotel staff after the occupants failed to check out as expected. When there was no response from inside the room, staff members reportedly forced the door open and discovered the man’s body.
Rather than reporting the discovery to the police, two members of staff, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the premises and transported it to the Katampe Bridge area along the Kubwa Expressway, where they dumped it.
Meanwhile, the deceased man’s family had reportedly declared him missing and contacted the police after they were unable to reach him.
As detectives began investigating his disappearance, technical analysis of his phone records reportedly helped investigators trace his last known communication to Rukayat.
The development led to her arrest and questioning by the police.
During interrogation, Rukayat reportedly confessed to being with the deceased at the guest house and maintained that he had suddenly collapsed while preparing to use the restroom.
The case has raised questions about the actions taken after the man’s death, particularly the decision to leave the premises without reporting the incident and the alleged involvement of the two hotel workers in moving and abandoning the body.
The police investigation is expected to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the man’s death and determine the individual responsibilities of those allegedly involved in concealing or abandoning his remains.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
