World leaders rally around Ukraine after Trump clash

In a show of solidarity, world leaders have come out in support of Ukraine and its President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, following a tense meeting with Donald Trump at the White House.

The meeting, which was intended to discuss a deal allowing the US greater access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, ended abruptly with Trump berating Zelenskyy and accusing him of being “disrespectful.”

However, Trump’s comments were quickly met with a chorus of support for Ukraine from leaders around the world.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was among the first to offer his support, tweeting “Dear Zelensky, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.”

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausea also weighed in, saying “Ukraine, you’ll never walk alone.”

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen added her voice to the chorus, stating “Dear Zelensky, Denmark proudly stands with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.”

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need to support Ukraine, saying “There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a people being aggressed: Ukraine. We were all right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago and to continue doing so.”

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said his country would continue to stand with Ukraine, stating “We will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes, because this is the struggle of a democratic nation versus an authoritarian regime led by Vladimir Putin.”

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also offered his support, saying “Russia illegally and unjustifiably invaded Ukraine… Their fight for democracy, freedom, and sovereignty is a fight that matters to us all.”

Czech Republic President Petr Pavel added his voice to the chorus, saying “We stand with Ukraine more than ever. Time for Europe to step up its efforts.”

European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tweeted her support for Zelenskyy, saying “Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless.”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also offered his support, saying “He retains his unwavering support for Ukraine and is playing his part to find a path forward to a lasting peace, based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine.”

Incoming German Chancellor Friedrich Mer also expressed his support, saying “Dear Volodymyr @zelenskyyua, we stand with #Ukraine in good and in testing times.”

Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenković added, “Croatia knows from its own experience that only a just peace can last.”

Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo said, “Finland and the Finnish people stand firmly with Ukraine.”

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas stated, “We stand united with @ZelenskyyUa and Ukraine in our fight for freedom.”

Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris said, “Ukraine is not to blame for this war brought about by Russia’s illegal invasion.”

Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkevics added, “Ukraine is a victim of the Russian aggression.”

The Netherlands’ Prime Minister Dick Schoof said, “The Netherlands supports Ukraine as firmly as ever.”

Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed solidarity with Ukraine, saying “Ukraine, Spain stands with you.”

Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Friedsen stated, “Luxembourg stands with Ukraine.”

The outpouring of support for Ukraine comes as the country continues to face aggression from Russia.
