20-year-old arrested after allegedly killing father with machete in Anambra

A 20-year-old man identified as Pascal Ogbogu, has allegedly killed his 56-year-old father with a machete in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday evening, August 25, 2026, after Ogbogu allegedly attacked his father before fleeing the scene.

The Anambra State Police Command said its operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division were alerted to the incident and mobilised to the area alongside the victim’s family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante.

The deceased was found in a pool of blood with a deep machete wound to his throat.

His remains were evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

According to the police, Ogbogu was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday following a coordinated effort involving security operatives, family members, vigilante personnel and other community members.

The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Ikenga said the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, commended those who assisted in apprehending the suspect.

The commissioner also stressed the importance of community participation and prompt sharing of information in the fight against crime.

CP Ama has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The police assured the victim’s family and members of the public that the investigation would be handled professionally and thoroughly.

The suspect, the command added, would be subjected to due process under the law.
