2027: Babachir Says He May Vote for Sowore, Rules Out APC, ADC, NDC

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, says he may consider voting for activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore in the 2027 presidential election, while ruling out support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Lawal made the remarks during an interview with TVC shortly after announcing his resignation from the ADC, citing alleged irregularities in the party’s presidential primary that produced former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.

Speaking on the political options ahead of the 2027 election, Lawal said he was not impressed by the leading contenders currently in the race.

“I found myself between the devil and the devil. Whatever option I choose, I still end up with the devil. As bad as Bola Tinubu is now, Atiku would be a worse president,” he said.

The former SGF, however, clarified that his criticism of both President Tinubu and Atiku should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any other politician.

“That doesn’t mean I have to support anybody. I have retired from politics and I’m not campaigning for anyone,” he stated.

Lawal said he would still exercise his right to vote when the time comes but has yet to make a final decision on who will get his support.

“I have one vote, and when the time comes, I will use it. I might even vote for Sowore. There are other people emerging who I believe can manage Nigeria better,” he added.

He also revealed that he has already decided which parties will not receive his support in the next election.

“At least, I have made some decisions. I have ruled out the APC. I have also ruled out the ADC, and I can tell you categorically that I have ruled out the NDC,” he said.

Lawal recently dumped the ADC, accusing the party leadership of manipulating the presidential primary in favour of Atiku Abubakar.

He alleged that the electoral process was compromised and that results were altered to ensure the former vice president emerged as the party’s candidate. The ADC has denied the allegations.
