Former Imo State Governor and Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has sued the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Hope Uzodinma over the publication of Uzodinma’s name as the party’s candidate for the 2027 Imo West senatorial election.
Okorocha, through his lawyer, O.J. Aboje, filed the suit on August 13, 2026, before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, the former governor is challenging INEC’s publication of Uzodinma’s name as the winner of the APC senatorial primary.
Okorocha claimed that he won the APC primary held on May 18, alleging that he polled 150,780 votes against Uzodinma’s 102,158 votes.
He is asking the court to determine whether INEC could publish Uzodinma’s name despite reports allegedly submitted by its officials who monitored the primary.
Okorocha is also challenging Uzodinma’s eligibility to contest for the Senate while still serving as governor, citing Section 183 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
He wants the court to nullify Uzodinma’s nomination, direct INEC to recognise and publish his name as the APC candidate, and restrain Uzodinma from presenting himself as the party’s senatorial candidate.
The former governor is also seeking costs against the defendants.
The case is now before the Federal High Court for determination.
