2027: Youth leader explains why coalition adopted ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been officially chosen as the political platform for a major youth-led coalition ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that this revelation was made on Saturday by Balarabe Rufai, the National Youth Leader of the ADC, during a press briefing at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.

According to Rufai, the decision was a product of strategic consultation and ethical alignment rather than tribal, religious, or regional considerations.

He declared that the 2027 presidential election would not be defined by ethnic or geopolitical sentiments, but rather by the conscience of the electorate.

Rufai said the coming contest would be between Nigerians who still have a moral conscience and those who have completely abandoned it.

He emphasized that the ADC is the only political party found to be ideologically neutral after a two-year evaluation by the coalition team.

“This is no longer about tribes or geopolitical zones,” Rufai stated.

“It is now between those who have a conscience and those who do not,” he continued.

He praised some coalition leaders for rejecting personal offers from the current administration, including political appointments and contracts.

Rufai disclosed that these leaders said “enough is enough” and refused to betray their ideals for political gain.

However, he quickly warned that even though these leaders have gained the trust of the coalition, they would not be turned into idols.

According to him, the coalition movement is about institutional change and not about personality cults.

Rufai also highlighted the inclusive nature of the ADC as a major reason it was selected.

He noted that the ADC is not a northern or southern party, nor is it defined by religion.

Instead, he said, it is a party created for all Nigerians, especially the common man who is often sidelined in national politics.

He added that the party encourages broad participation and accountability from its members, and that its structure welcomes young Nigerians with vision and integrity.

He made it clear that the search for a credible party had taken two years, and only the ADC met the coalition’s uncompromising standards.

Rufai concluded by expressing confidence that the ADC, with support from the coalition, will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

He maintained that young people remain the backbone of the ADC and will lead the charge for transformative change.

The event marks a new phase in the growing momentum of third-force political movements in Nigeria, with youth actors playing a central role.

As 2027 approaches, all eyes will be on how this coalition-backed ADC positions itself as a formidable alternative to the entrenched political elite.
