A devastating road accident occurred in the early hours of July 6, 2025, at the Atura Bus Stop in the Badagry area of Lagos State, Nigeria.

A commercial bus, a 16-seater Mazda with registration number KJA 811 YF, collided with a DAF truck marked T1 4636 LA, resulting in a fiery crash that claimed eight lives, including the bus driver and his conductor.

According to eyewitness accounts and preliminary findings by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the commercial bus was traveling at high speed before the driver lost control, crashing into the truck with catastrophic force.

Eight people lost their lives instantly, while eight others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The injured passengers were quickly transported to the Badagry General Hospital for urgent medical care.

Eight passengers sustained varying degrees of trauma and were receiving medical attention at the hospital ⁴ ¹.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, visited the crash site and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

He attributed the accident to speeding, emphasizing the need for drivers to exercise caution on the roads.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) unit commander in Badagry, Williams Manga, warned drivers on the expressway to reduce speed and drive responsibly, noting that excessive speed has been a recurring factor in such crashes.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to adhere to traffic regulations.

The Lagos State Government and LASTMA continue to emphasize the importance of responsible driving practices to prevent such accidents.
