AFCON: Nigeria through to finals, meets winner between DR Congo, CIV

Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the finals of the 2023 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, after edging out South Africa in Buoake, Cote de’Ivoire in a tension soaked match.

The winning sets them up with a final clash between winner of the fixture pitting DR Congo against Cote de’Ivoire, the host country. Their game which kicked off after the Nigeria, South Africa debacle was still 0-0 as at the time of filing this report.

All three countries have pedigrees in the game.

Nigeria versus South Africa game ended 1-1 after both sides scored via penalties at regulation time.

The match lived to expectation going by both sides pedigree in the Nation’s Cup. Super Eagles opened scoring after being awarded free kick off a foul Victor Osimhen, after he was brought down in the south African box.

Careless tackle by Alhassan Yusuf gave the South Africans a penalty even though the infraction was picked by VAR after Nigeria scored what what could have been a second goal.
