AFCON: Varsity bursar dies while watching Nigeria, South Africa tensed match on Wednesday night

Another death in connection with tension associated with the African Cup of Nation, AFCON, match between Nigeria and South Africa, after that of a prominent politician in Nigeria, has been announced early Thursday morning, DDM has learnt.

Deputy Bursar of a state owned varsity, Kwara state University (KWASU), Malete, Alhaji Ayuba Olaitan Abdullahi, on Wednesday night, died while watching the semi final match between Nigeria and South Africa in the ongoing AFCON competition.

It was reported by DDM, Thursday, that Cairo Ojugbo, former adviser to ex president Goodluck Jonathan and prominent politician in the country’s politics firmament also died while watching the match.

Nigeria won the tension soaked match against South Africa by 4 goals to 2 on penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at extra time of the match.

As learnt, the deputy Bursar died on Wednesday after he went to watched the match at a Sports center in Sango area in Ilorin, the state capital of Kwara.

According to a source, Ayuba watched the game till the end of the extra time when he felt uncomfortable and was rushed to a private hospital in the area where he gave up the ghost.

” When it was the time for penalty kick, he complained that he was feeling dizzy, so he said he needed to go back home and rest, not knowing that his Blood pressure was up.

“So on getting home, he collapsed and he was rushed to private hospital  in Sango and he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) and before he could be attended to, he died,” the source that informed DDM.

He was buried on Thursday morning according to Islamic rites.

Saedat Aliyu, director of Information of KWASU confirmed that Ayuba died on Wednesday night.
