ILORIN, Nigeria — The Kwara State Government has raised serious concerns over the influx of unidentified commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders into the state, warning that the trend poses significant security threats to residents and communities across the state.

The government, through the State Commissioner for Transportation, has called on Okada riders to comply with the state’s resident registration requirements and to ensure that their operations are conducted in a manner that does not compromise public safety. The commissioner stressed that the state has observed a worrying increase in the number of commercial motorcycle operators whose identities and backgrounds cannot be verified.

According to the government, the presence of these unidentified riders has become a source of anxiety for residents, particularly in areas where incidents of crime have been linked to the use of motorcycles. The state noted that Okada riders are often used as getaway vehicles by criminals, making it difficult for security agencies to track and apprehend offenders.

In response to the growing concerns, the Kwara State Government has directed all commercial motorcycle operators to register with the relevant authorities and to obtain proper identification documents. The government has also urged residents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activities involving Okada riders to the nearest security agency.

The development comes amid heightened security concerns across Nigeria, with several states grappling with the challenges posed by the activities of unidentified motorcyclists. The Kwara State Government has assured residents that it is working closely with security agencies to address the issue and to prevent any potential security breaches.
