UK Lawyers to practice in Nigeria

A collaboration deal between Nigeria and the United Kingdom is about to be signed, allowing British attorneys to conduct business and provide services in Nigeria.

The cooperation agreement between the UK and Nigeria, according to a press release posted on its website on Tuesday, aims to advance investment and commerce while creating new opportunities for both nations.

Additionally, it revealed that its scope went beyond finance and that it may strengthen the $7 billion bilateral collaboration that is currently fruitful.

The UK Department of Business and Trade reports that a new agreement between the two nations is about to be signed with the aim of strengthening collaboration between them.

The agreement, known as “The Enhanced Trade and Investment Partnership (ETIP),” would mark the UK’s first signing of a similar contract with an African nation.

Nigeria has one of the fastest-growing economies in Africa, therefore the agreement would present many prospects for the British, according to British Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch.

“With this collaboration, we will be able to collaborate and take advantage of the future potential. Nigeria is the first African nation with whom the UK has partnered. Nigeria’s economy is among the fastest-growing in the world.

“UK companies have already experienced great success here, and I’m excited to see how we develop this partnership further,” Kemi Badenoch continued.

As part of the agreement, Nigeria will also undertake measures to lower obstacles that prevent British lawyers from practicing international and foreign law in the West African nation.

The statement also stated that Nigeria would “commit to working towards removing barriers preventing UK lawyers from practicing international and foreign law in Nigeria, a step that could significantly increase UK legal services exports.”
